The "smal school" theory has been touted as a means to creating highly successful schools. Deborah Meir (click) puts the argument for small schools into perspective.
The Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC) is a federally supported system of 16 clearinghouses and supporting organizations that makes various written materials about education accessible to all who are interested. The ERIC system produces a computer-searchable bibliographic database of the literature in education. Currently the database describes nearly 1 million articles, reports, curriculum guides, books, and other information resources. The ERIC system is funded by the U.S. Department of Education through its National Library of Education.
ERIC's intiative on small schools involves a compilation of research material. Click to go there. The Coalition of Essential Schools is a growing national network of over 1,000 schools and 24 regional support centers. We have evolved from a centrally-run organization to a decentralized network of regional centers that provide technical assistance and personalized support to schools.
CES National supports the work of regional centers which coach schools through systematic change at the school site. This organizational structure allows CES to maintain both a national vision and a strong commitment to local implementation.
